B6.V-Lepob/J-nm3530

The phenotype of this recessive mutation consists of a small white spot on one, or more commonly, both cornea. When viewed by slit lamp and indirect ophthalmoscope, an atypical growth of blood vessels can be observed on the effected cornea. Initial hearing exams completed on two mutants and two controls of each sex at three months of age produced normal results. This mutation has been mapped to Chromosome 11, 6.8 Mb from the centromere and has been named "white eyes" (whe).
