About the Maine Cancer Genomics Initiative

The Maine Cancer Genomics Initiative brings innovative cancer genomic testing, education, and drug access infrastructure to Maine, including partnerships with every oncology practice in the state. Originally developed by the need for greater availability of cancer genomic testing for Maine’s cancer patients, MCGI has become a model for community precision oncology - or personalized cancer care - in a rural setting.

MCGI Collaborators

Collaboration is central to MCGI, which extends cancer genomic testing, education, and drug access infrastructure across Maine and beyond. Numerous oncology practices and their collaborators in the state are involved in MCGI, which was initially established to improve access to genomic tumor testing in Maine. MCGI has evolved into a model for community precision oncology, offering personalized cancer care in rural areas. In its first phase, over 1,600 cancer patients in Maine received genomic testing, and the second phase aims to further integrate precision oncology into community practices in Maine and Northern New England.
